J McGowen – Appleby a.k.a Beatlebabe is a professional marketing executive and journalist with over 10 years’ experience in business and media.
She has worked as a radio presenter, news and promotions assistant in Ohio for WBNO FM/WQCT AM (Bryan) and WXKR FM (Toledo) and also as a music columnist for Toledo’s independent lifestyle newspaper, The Weekly. During this time, she mingled and had the pleasure of interviewing music industry greats like Alice Cooper, .38 Special, B.B. King, David Crosby and The Allman Brothers.
After this radio and journalism stint in Ohio, she spent time in Canada and eventually moved to England and carved a successful career in marketing. She has studied marketing, music appreciation, film studies, humanities and music technology in both America and England.
J was featured in the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s member magazine in 2008. 9-5, she looks after the marketing and promotional strategy for a leading European and Japanese automotive consultant.
Recently, she was awarded a diploma with distinction from the London School of Journalism in music and arts writing under the tutorledge of Nick Roberts-Alatti.

As a freelance music journalist, she writes regularly for websites including rokpool.com and makeitinmusic.com. Her writing has also been featured on northamptonbands.co.uk and Brimstone Radio. She also works as a gig and album reviewer for Midlands Music Maniacs and Midlandsrocks.co.uk.
J’s passion is supporting local, independent arts and music and providing marketing support to bands and artists. Her clients include Rene Byrd, a classic R-n-B singer from London; Al Goodwin, an acoustic singer/songwriter from London and Lit Soul, a hard rock band from Los Angeles.
